November 2016

****Please Post the following news items in school newsletters and websites/blogs.
1. Provincial assessment results 2015

The Provincial Assessment Results 2015 have been released and are published on the Education, Early Learning and Culture’s website at: http://www.gov.pe.ca/eecd/studentassessment

Provincial assessments are conducted yearly with students being assessed in reading, writing and mathematics at the end of Grades 3, 6, and 9.

2. Affecting change through resolutions
Presidents are asked to hold a discussion about resolutions at November and December Local Home & School Association meetings. Members are to consider presenting an issue (affecting the learning success of students) needing change at the provincial level through the PEI Home and School Federation’s advocacy policies. Resolutions will be presented to the Annual General Meeting on Saturday, April 9, 2016. The deadline to submit resolutions is: Friday, January 29, 2016. Need help? Check our website at: http://peihsf.ca/making_resolutions for more details, and phone the Federation office at 620-3186 / 1-800-916-0664. Ghislaine is available to assist in the resolution drafting process.

3. School Board Meeting

At its meeting of October 27, 2015, the English Language School Board passed a new “School Change” policy, which will shortly be available on the ELSB website (http://www.gov.pe.ca/edu/elsb/). The policy was amended by trustees to add a requirement that school board staff make additional efforts to consult with home and school associations and others about the policy; home and school associations are thus encouraged to contact Karen Redmond, Manager of Policy & Planning, at 902-894-0234 or kkredmond@edu.pe.ca to arrange to have a presentation on the new policy to your members.

The November meeting of the English Language School Board will be held on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at 7:30 p.m. The regular monthly meeting will be followed by the ELSB Annual Meeting. To learn more about decision-making and policy development by our appointed trustees, Home and School members are encouraged to attend School Board meetings and invite School Board Trustees to local Home and School meetings.
